No, her guile would lead me to discovering a much larger plot against me. How could she not attract my attention? But this isn't some urban fantasy romance novel. She walked along, her hair the color of a Valkyrie's and long legs tucked into stylish boots. Where should I begin? Oh, probably where every good story begins: with a girl. Just don't be surprised when I roll my eyes. ![]() Humans need more help than I can provide! Fine, I'll try. ![]() Of course, who would ever believe me, the Trickster? Odin, the All-Father, has charged me with protecting the humans of Midgard from unfriendly, trans-dimensional beings, as if that were a small task. ![]() I, Loki, Norse god of mischief, was paroled to earth for a crime I swear I didn't comment. ![]()

I especially liked how he explained the figures with context rather than listing a bunch of meaningless numbers. He spins a good yarn but also includes relevant figures and great anecdotes. It almost feels as if someone is reading it aloud and telling a story while explaining something important. The author is an academic, but he has a style (at least in this book) that is readable and engaging for a wide audience. The author makes a powerful and persuasive case both for the usefulness of food as a way to understand people's relationships with their worlds generally and, more important, how much and deeply the empire affected peoples lives in Britain. Instead it narrates and argues for the importance of food in how people understood the empire and how the empire affected the daily lives of the people who stayed in Britain. It is not really food history in that it is not a biography of coffee. The book explores how food, society and empire interacted in Britain during the 18th century. ![]() There are no reviews of this book yet, so I am taking a stab at it. ![]() 5/7/2023 0 Comments Everlost series![]() ![]() Therefore, I would recommend this book to anyone who has spare time and is willing to delve themselves into a truly great book. I found myself actually excited to read the next chapter, which is coming from someone who is not typically an enthusiastic reader. Along the way, these two characters encounter many lifelike characters, and Neal Shusterman is able to effectively depict each event with imagery and descriptive language. The book follows these characters as they traverse through this ghostly world, and try to find their purpose among the other dead children, known as the "afterlights". They are somewhat like ghosts, and retain the exact appearance they had when they died. The trilogy contains examples of: Alliterative Name: Megan Mary McGill and her younger brother Mikey McGill. Everfound It becomes clear that the outcome will determine not just the fate of Everlost, but the fate of the living world as well. Over the past year or so, Neal Shusterman has quickly become one of my favorite authors, which can probably be attributed to this fantastic novel.Įverlost is the first of three novels, which follows the story of two teenage characters, Nick and Allie, who have just awoken in a ghostly parallel to the real world after drying in a car crash. Everlost, the limbo land of dead children, is at war. ![]() 5/7/2023 0 Comments Inversions banks![]() Inversions is a dazzling work of science fiction from an author writing at the height of his remarkable powers. Spiralling round a central core of secrecy, deceit, love and betrayal - and linked more closely than even those involved can know - each climbs to its own devastating climax. Banks previous science fiction novel, EXCESSION, was a SUNDAY TIMES hardback and paperback bestseller, and was published. None of them, however, can risk saying so. And when you pass the 50% mark, the rest is free fall. Every chapter has a climax (of sorts) that leaves you hanging for the next chapter. What I love about Thier’s books so far is that they’re ALL fast paced. ![]() Like S&S, I finished this quicker than I expected. I came at it full force, with lots and lots of expectations and also, ideas I of what I didn’t want, and yet…this…surprised me more than anything. But with In the Eye of the Storm, it was a little different. ![]() Initially I was really excited to receive the ARC from the author, since I found myself loving Storm & Silence for all the reasons I listed in my review. ![]() You know, I had my ups and down with this book.
